A US Soldier Fires off Flaming Arrows

Flaming arrows

This American Commando is shown using a bow and arrow with a flaming arrow attached to try and expose Vietcong positions hidden beneath and behind the jungle vegetation. The Vietcong was highly adept at utilizing the terrain of the jungle to hide from and later ambush U.S. and South Vietnamese forces. Amazing Shot of the 1970 Eclipse

What you’re seeing here, are ten separate exposures on a single frame to display the phases of a partial solar eclipse. This particular viewing was of the 1970 eclipse over Washington DC. According to NASA, the next solar eclipse the United States will see will be on October 14, 2023, and will be visible from Northern California to Florida. It will also be annular – which means it will look outlined because the edge of the sun will still be visible around the moon, like a bright ring. The next total eclipse in the US is set for April 8, 2024, and will be visible from Texas to Maine.

Kareem Abdul Jabbar

Kareem Abdul Jabbar

Kareem Abdul Jabbar, the 7-foot-2 star of the Milwaukee Bucks pro basketball team, and jockey Willie Shoemaker, center, who is tall in the saddle, is a study in contrasts as they receive Dewar’s award of merit at luncheon, November 2, 1972, in New York. Both have won more than 2,000 races apiece. But the record for most wins in a single year by a jockey belongs to Eddie Arcaro, who rode 79 winners in 1938 and considered to be the best in their respective sports. The term “the best” is open to interpretation, of course, but it’s generally applied to someone who has consistently proven himself over time and against the competition.

Dawn Wells After Gilligan’s Island

Life After Gilligan’s Island

When Gilligan’s Island ended in 1967, Dawn found herself in a challenging position. Like many actors associated with a single iconic role, she was often typecast, but she embraced her legacy with grace. Wells stayed active in acting, appearing in guest roles on television and in theater productions across the country. She showed her range and dedication, proving she was much more than just Mary Ann Summers.
