Clint Eastwood Skateboarding in Rome

Clint Eastwood Skateboarding in Rome

This playful photograph captures Clint Eastwood unexpectedly skateboarding down Via Veneto in Rome during the mid-1960s. At the time, Eastwood was in Italy filming the now-legendary spaghetti western A Fistful of Dollars, directed by Sergio Leone. The film would catapult Eastwood to international fame and establish him as a major star. Joanna Lumley

Joanna Lumley

Joanna Lumley may not be royalty but she’s a true queen. After getting her start as a model, Lumley was a must-cast British babe in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. You can see some of her early work in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service and the Hammer Horror classic The Satanic Rites of Dracula, but audiences were really able to put a name to a face when she starred as Purdey in the New Avengers, a sequel to the hit British spy show The Avengers, in 1976. Those credits alone are enough for one actress, but in the ‘90s Lumley co-starred in the all-time classic comedy series Absolutely Fabulous as Patsy Stone, a hard drinking fashion director. It’s rare that someone so gorgeous has such range, but Lumley’s the full package.

The Kennedys’ world was one of extraordinary privilege and access, but even then, the cracks were starting to show. This moment, framed by the glamour of the presidency, belies the immense pressure and scrutiny the family endured. For RFK Jr., these early interactions with his uncle likely instilled both a deep respect for public service and an acute awareness of its dangers.

All Along the Watchtower

Rare cover

Hendrix’s cover of “All Along the Watchtower” is the rare cover song that stands on its own and makes the listener forget the original. The song took about a month to record and hundreds of overdubs, with Hendrix reportedly stating, “‘I think I hear it a little bit differently” every time he wiped out a take.

Abraham Lincoln and Tad

Abraham Lincoln and Tad

This rare photograph from 1865 captures President Abraham Lincoln with his youngest son, Tad, in a rare moment of intimacy and almost-smile. During Lincoln’s last formal sitting, just weeks before his assassination, the image shows the softer, paternal side of a leader who is often remembered for his stoicism and resolve. Tad, known for his mischievous nature, brought joy to Lincoln’s life during the dark days of the Civil War.
